SENIOR OPTICAL ENGINEER / PHYSICIST:
This position is for a senior level Optical engineer/physicist to support the development of light measurement instruments. The individual will work with Engineering, Manufacturing and Marketing to define and develop light measurement instruments and systems. The individual must be a self starter with excellent engineering and project management skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Define, design and develop complex light measurement systems that involve photometry, radiometry and retroreflection. Responsibilities may include mechanical and electrical design plus software development and testing.
- Develop products from concept to product, including managing the product release to manufacturing.
- Work with Electrical and Mechanical engineers to develop integrated optical systems.
- Manage projects and oversee product development process for select projects.
- Support manufacturing in sustaining engineering. Help resolve parts supply issues.
- Provide technical leadership in optics for Gamma Scientific.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must understand the practical aspects of light measurement, covering luminous flux, luminous intensity, illuminance, luminance, color temperature and chromaticity.
- Broad knowledge of optics should be demonstrated in some of the following areas: photometry, spectroscopy, radiometry, night vision measurements, optical imaging system design, spectroscopy and micro-lens arrays. Lens design or experience in detailed lens specifications requirements is a plus.
- Experience in handling precision optics and alignment of optical systems.
- Fluent in utilizing common commercial optical ray-tracing software (Zeemax, OSLO, or equivalent) for design and tolerance analysis.
- Manufacturing work experience a major plus.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills a must. Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced, technically challenging environment. Technical leadership. Relevant product development and / or industry experience required.
- Must know ESD safe work practices.
- Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimum supervision.
EDUCATION
BS in Optics, Physics or equivalent with 8 years minimum experience. MS or Ph.D. with 4 years experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interprets general technical procedures. Ability to write reports and understand procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and technicians.
