Applications Engineer

The Applications Engineer is the primary technical resource for customers, distributors, and regional sales managers, providing technical support on the company’s products. The Applications Engineer will maintain a level of technical expertise on company’s products and their operation necessary to evaluate technical requirements from customers and recommend solutions for specific applications.

Responsibilities will include creation of white papers and application notes, development of web content, data sheets and user manuals. This position requires exercising independent judgment to perform the responsibilities described herein and does require occasional travel.

This position would be office-based at the company’s headquarters in San Diego. The ideal candidate will have experience with applications of optical radiation measurement equipment in the video display, solid state lighting or photonics markets, and will have the ability to work with technical and non-technical individuals in large and small organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical reference for the sales team and act as a liason to engineering and test departments
  • Act as primary technical point of contact for our distributors, reps, and customers
  • Utilize Zoho CRM on a daily basis to log correspondence related to technical support requests
  • Build the company’s internal knowledge base of problems/solutions
  • Interface with product managers and engineers and perform testing to gather technical information for marketing materials
  • Contribute to the creation of data sheets, white papers, user manuals, web content, price lists and other collateral materials
  • Ensure that incoming technical support requests are acknowledged within one business day, and manage customer expectations on timeline for response and/or resolution
  • Manage case load and coordinate with other departments to close out open support cases
  • Support regional sales managers with customer presentations and demos as required (some travel will be necessary)
  • Training of new salespersons and reps on the company’s product line, both current and legacy products
  • Contribute to new product definitions and feature requests based on customer inputs
  • Assist with competitive analysis
  • Generate ECR’s and work with engineering to complete drawing packages needed by sales
  • Participate in weekly sales meeting teleconferences
  • Support management with periodic reports and maintenance of data in CRM
  • Continuously improve your knowledge and expertise on the company’s products and their applications

Requirements

  • To succeed in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in engineering or technical sales in a related field
  • Knowledge of optics, photonics, calibrations a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical document creation
  • Able to present technical concepts and provide customers with hands-on demonstrations using our products
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%

Buyer

This position is for a Buyer to procure material requirements driven by Gamma Scientific’s MRP system, as well as requisitions submitted from other departments. This candidate should possess good multi-tasking skills, as well as be self-driven. They must be able to effectively negotiate cost and manage multiple suppliers. The Buyer will report to the Purchasing Agent. Gamma Scientific is a small fast growing ISO 17025 accredited company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Purchase made to order material and off the shelf parts using a computer based MRP system
  • Maintain purchasing documents for traceability in MRP system. i.e. purchase requisitions, quotes, acknowledgements
  • Follow up on open purchase orders and expedite if necessary
  • Internet research for parts vendors and alternate sources
  • Negotiate prices, terms and conditions with suppliers
  • Interface with Accounts Payable, Engineering and Production
  • Maintain inventory purchasing information on database
  • Keep management updated on status of critical purchases

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience as a Buyer, which may include experience as an Assistant Buyer
  • Able to read blue prints
  • Working knowledge of materials and material finishes
  • Experienced in purchasing from Machine Shops

Mechanical Engineer/Designer

We have an opening for the position of Mechanical Engineer/Designer. We are seeking an individual who wants a fast paced, highly technical, hands-on career designing and building light measurement optical products and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions to design problems and design parts/assemblies for products
  • Product mechanical and electromechanical design, including manufacturing process development
  • Design for manufacturability and lean manufacturing
  • Possible designs include metal parts and assemblies, sheet metal enclosures, welded assemblies, plastic components, control systems and simple electric circuits
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service and Sales as needed
  • Work with engineers and scientists in multi-functional project teams to develop new products
  • Support engineering in NPI processes including developing BOMs and ECNs to release new products to Manufacturing
  • Transfer new products to engineering
  • Qualify and test new products as needed
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of professional mechanical design experience using SOLIDWORKS
  • Working knowledge of mills, lathes and drill presses required. Prior machine shop experience a plus
  • Willingness and ability to test, analyze and solve technical problems
  • Experience with generating engineering documentation for manufacturing required
  • Documentation experience must include generating Bill of Materials and Engineering Change Orders/Notices
  • Knowledge of ISO9001, GMP or other quality systems a plus
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills

Software Engineer

This position is for a creative Software Engineer to develop and deploy new software solutions. The Software Engineer must be able to work closely with other engineers and team members in order to implement designs and meet deadlines. Since Gamma Scientific is a small, fast growing company, the Software Engineer should possess good multi-tasking skills and be a versatile problem solver.

  • Design, code, and debug moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, .NET, assembly language or other selected languages

Senior Electrical Engineer

This position is for a creative Electrical Engineer to develop and deploy new electrical designs. The Electrical Engineer must be able to work closely with other engineers and team members in order to implement designs and meet deadlines. Since Gamma Scientific is a small fast growing company, the Electrical Engineer should possess good multi-tasking skills and be a versatile problem solver. The Electrical Engineer will report to the Systems Engineering Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and debug complex electrical schematics in OrCAD Capture, EAGLE, or other electrical design software
  • Design and layout PCBs using OrCAD Layout, EAGLE, or other electrical design software
  • Integrate microcontrollers in electrical designs and program those microcontrollers in C, assembly language, etc.
  • Integrate new hardware with existing systems, send and receive commands with various hardware/software interfaces
  • Generate full documentation packages for electrical designs, including schematics, GERBER files, fab drawings, bill of materials, etc.
  • Develop electrical test jigs for production testing and verification of turnkey PCBAs
  • Design, code, and debug simple software in C, C++, C#, .NET, assembly language, or other selected languages
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting PLCs and FPGAs is a plus

Electro-Mechanical Engineer

This position is for a creative Electro-Mechanical Engineer to develop and deploy new designs. The Electro-Mechanical Engineer must be able to work closely with other engineers and team members in order to implement designs and meet deadlines. Since Gamma Scientific is a small fast growing company, the Electro-Mechanical Engineer should possess good multi-tasking skills and be a versatile problem solver. The Electro-Mechanical Engineer will report to the Systems Engineering Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical/electromechanical components, assemblies, and systems; incorporating sound engineering principles, customer requirements, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Model complex electromechanical systems using a combination of CAD and EDA software
  • Confirm system capabilities and performance through research and by designing feasibility/test methods
  • Design and debug complex electrical schematics in OrCAD, Altium, Cadence, EAGLE, Easy PC, or other electrical design software
  • Design and layout PCBs using OrCAD, Altium, Cadence, EAGLE, Easy PC, or other electrical design software
