Optics Laboratory Technician

This position is for a laboratory technician to support the testing, calibration and measurement of spectroradiometers, monochromators, photodetectors and standard light sources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, measurements and calibrations of lamps, photodetectors and spectroradiometers per established procedures. Perform testing and measurement of displays, solid state lighting, and glass samples for transmission and reflectance
  • Machine/modify simple testing components using standard machine shop tools
  • Develop test methods and procedures for new products
  • Test product software as required
  • Maintain test equipment by analyzing performance and perform calibration tests with reference standards
  • Interface with engineers in developing and revising test procedures
  • Work with engineers on qualification testing of new products

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Strong knowledge of college level Physics with emphasis on Optics or basic knowledge in the fundamentals of photometry and colorimetry
  • Experience using machine shop equipment to make simple parts/fixtures/modifications is required
  • Basic ability in reading optical, electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Must understand test process and procedures for test development
  • Must know ESD safe work practices
  • PC skills in Windows environment including Excel, Word, and NI LabView
  • Ability to program in Excel and Labview a plus
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimum supervision

Education

  • BS degree in Physics, Optics or Engineering
  • AS degree in Physics, Optics or Engineering considered with experience
  • Non-degree considered with strong understanding of light measurement and experience
  • Language Skills

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures
    • Ability to write reports and understand procedures and manuals
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and technicians
    • Software Engineer

      This position is for a creative Software Engineer to develop and deploy new software solutions. The Software Engineer must be able to work closely with other engineers and team members in order to implement designs and meet deadlines. Since Gamma Scientific is a small, fast growing company, the Software Engineer should possess good multi-tasking skills and be a versatile problem solver. The Software Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Design, code, and debug moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, .NET, assembly language or other selected languages
      • Develop user-friendly front end graphical user interfaces
      • Utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes and debuggers in the software development process
      • Integrate software with existing systems, send and receive commands with various hardware/software interfaces
      • May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for specific software projects
      • Collaborate and add value through participation in team development projects, providing comments and suggestions
      • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
      • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes and provide comments on electrical design aspects
      • Work collaboratively and professionally with other Gamma Scientific associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals
      • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment, focus and prioritization to developing solutions in a timely fashion
      • Write product and/or application information including manuals, procedures and datasheets
      • Travel to assist with software implementation and system integration in the field
      • Perform other duties as necessary

      Qualifications

      • Strong background in Physics and Mathematics is required
      • Basic knowledge in the fundamentals of spectroradiometry, photometry and colorimetry is desired
      • Experience with light measurement test equipment, electronic laboratory equipment or commercial display equipment is a plus
      • General PC skills in Windows environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
      • Effective verbal and written communication skills
      • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimum supervision

      Education

      • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Computer Engineering, Engineering, Physics or Optics

      Mechanical Drafter

      This position is for a Mechanical Drafter to create detailed design drawings and specifications. The Mechanical Drafter will also be responsible for maintaining document control including new part releases, revision changes and other manufacturing process changes. Since Gamma Scientific is a small, fast growing company, the Mechanical Drafter should possess good multi-tasking skills and be a versatile problem solver. The Mechanical Drafter will report to the Director of Manufacturing.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Create and revise detailed design drawings for mechanical parts using CAD software, specifically SolidWorks and AutoCAD
      • Create and revise detailed assembly drawings for complex optical, electrical and mechanical systems using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
      • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting component design
      • Maintain proper document control for new part releases, revision changes, bill of material modifications, creation of new part numbers, etc.
      • Create manufacturing procedures and instructions to be followed during assembly
      • Check dimensions on incoming materials, provide assistance with part rejections and correct deficiencies in documentation
      • Collaborate with other team members to resolve design issues or other problems and add value through participation in team development projects
      • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
      • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes and provide comments on various design aspects
      • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
      • Write product and/or application information including manuals, procedures and datasheets
      • Perform other duties as necessary

      Qualifications

      • Strong background using SolidWorks is required, basic working knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus
      • Knowledge of ANSI drafting standards is required
      • Understanding machine shop capabilities and specifications is required
      • Experience using machine shop equipment to make simple parts/fixtures/modifications is a plus
      • General PC skills in Windows environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
      • Effective verbal and written communication skills
      • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimum supervision

      Education

      • Associates degree in Mechanical Drafting or Mechanical Engineering is required
      • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline, is a plus
